Hi, my name is Delano Ayer

Today, I am Three YEARS, four months and three days clean and sober. My criminal behaviour is something of my past and I am working hard to give back what I took from many.

Through Growing Champions I have relocated to a safer living space, I have undertaken studies, become the first person in my family to obtain a legal drivers licence, become employed as a duty manager and serve as a football facilitator within the Growing Champions organisation.

My brother lives in the poverty of Eldorado Park. But, he is a Growing Champion. He has been taught to be a leader. To serve others. To build his dreams. To be grateful and celebrate his blessing. To invest in others and become united in a passion to Champion Change. He has remarkable football skills and is working on preparation for football academy trials. Our brother Keanin is in the top football academy in Africa and we believe Lezano will follow in his footsteps.

On Tuesday night I received a phone call that brought me to my knees. A hollow burning sensation in the pit of my stomach I thought i had left behind had returned. Samantha called to tell me that my youngest brother, Lezano (13) had been hit by a speeding police car, catapulted into the air, smashed into the windscreen and bounced into the gravel and dirt. He was walking home with 4 of his Growing Champions team mates when a car swerved into the passage way and caught his friend Dehandray’s leg and hit straight into his body, the body of a professional football player, hopeful.

Samantha’s voice was soothing, she knows me for four years now. She came into my life when I was sucking the devils hook. A tik addict for 8 years. A school drop out. A criminal and violent gangster. She asked me if I want to change my life and helped me do it. She didn’t fear me. In fact, she conquered me with love. She is the daughter of boxing Hall of Famer, Olympic medallist and World Class boxer, Willie Toweel. No-one in my drug and gang stained community would give me the time of day but Samantha took me on round for round. Her Faith unshakeable and her believe in me unstoppable.

My brother's body has been damaged and his mind haunted by Tuesdays accident. He is swollen, bruised and in a lot of pain. His lower back, arm and leg are damaged.

It isn’t okay that a young man, fighting against all odds, swimming upstream to avoid falling to his inherited drugs, gangster and criminal lifestyle should not be able to have basic safety.

It kills me that my brother is fighting so hard and it seems he has no backing or voice.

Lezano was failing Grade 8 this year, but he attended all the tutoring sessions Growing Champions provided and made it through. He was top goal scorer in the football team. He also won the, “It’s on me!” campaign. He had to show diligence, initiative, team spirit, effort, determination and perseverance from March to October. These characteristics were turned into currency, which earned him a meal out for his family. He is a provider and Changemaker. Doing all he can to make South Africa a better place, but he has no safe place..

We found the erfect property on the Sunday before the accident. We showed it to the team. It felt like home. 247 Pine Avenue, Ferndale. Right opposite Carreria’s Fruit and Veg Centre where they can get healthy development. The only obstacle is they need St Nicholas to purchase this gift for them.

Our future is bright. Give them a hand up and they will do the same. New Hope is born.

Samantha saved my life. I want to pay it forward and save many more lives. Starting with my little brother.

Please help me give my brother and his team mates the Gift of Home. Safe housing for this U15 Team with an Education, Personal Development and Sports Centre on the same property.

All donations will be greatly appreciated.
